It’s high time to revamp Indian Business Schools

How do you define the progression of a country? Does it depend only on the national economy or the more beneficial lifestyle of its populace or even the prospects in the coming ages? Whatever it is there is no doubt that any developing country with a strong aspiration to attain zenith depends a lot on the notion of business education within itself. Now, if there is any such discrepancy what will happen? A great question may rise against the potentiality of the very nation. What is more it may lead to a persistent void, if not more.

However unfortunate it is, it must be affirmed that India, at present, is also suffering from the same malicious disease. In the recent days a study conducted throughout the country came out with startling results and confirmed that the majority of business schools in India are superannuated and they have no such interest to cope with the changing reality. Apart from the presence of antediluvian textbooks there are professors who simply do not care to be conversant with the changing economic trends in the international spectrum. The Business Barometer study was issued last month by the the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (Assocham), the country's leading chamber of commerce organization and the author of the study is Jyoti Bhutani.

The study also corroborated that barring the 30 topnotch business schools the other business schools lacked in every aspect, ranging from requisite teachers, facilities to infrastructure. For instance the study revealed that majority of the professors were nescient of the major economic trends and significant developments in the present international environ. Even almost 90% did not know that there could be any such recession in the United States of America! This may be, according to the  pertinent researchers, a relevant reason behind the immense difficulty to get highly proficient graduates who can gratify the acclivitous dream of the company.

On the other hand there are several instances when the business schools are permitted to operate in small houeses in metropolitan suburbs but with inhuman dearth of requisite infrastructure. This rotten surround along with middling guidance and mentors bring forth second-rate profesionals who give out at every juncture and also to lead the country.

Now the queston remains what is the possible remediation? To the opinions of pundits the accreditation must be improved, up-to-the-minute and highly proficient. For instance, till now, not even a single elite business school of India has accreditation from U.S.-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), one of the leading business school accrediting agencies.

Only a professional and improved process of accreditation can be the best way to imporve the Indian business schools or else the impending disaster is not far away.
